Variable Air Volume (VAV) Boxes

Zone temperature control by modulating airflow

Function
Zone temperature control
Method
Modulates conditioned airflow
Responds to
Duct static pressure or zone signal

Overview

A VAV box gives each zone of a building its own temperature control. Instead of changing the supply air temperature, it modulates how much conditioned air enters the zone, in response to duct static pressure or a signal from the zone thermostat.

Air enters through a round inlet with an airflow sensor, and a motorized damper sets the volume the zone needs at that moment, inside a galvanized steel casing. The result is smart climate management: zone temperatures held steady by controlling air volume on real-time signals, with the central plant supplying only the air the building is using.

Certifications & standards

What each mark on this product means, who issues it and how it applies here.

All certifications & standards
  • ISO 9001

    Quality Management Systems

Issued by International Organization for Standardization (ISO)

    What it is
The international standard for quality management systems. A certified company works to documented processes, checks its output against them, records what it finds and corrects the cause of any fault, and is audited on all of it by an independent certification body.
    On this product
Designed, fabricated and inspected under our certified ISO 9001 quality system: the same documented process for every unit, whichever of our factories builds it.

Frequently asked

For anything these answers do not cover, speak to one of our engineers directly.

How does a VAV box differ from a constant volume system?

A constant volume system varies the air temperature and keeps the flow fixed; a VAV box keeps the supply temperature and varies the flow into each zone, so each zone gets exactly the cooling it needs and the fans move less air at part load.

What signal controls the box?

Duct static pressure or the zone's temperature control signal, which set the damper position in real time.
