Overview

A duct system delivers the design airflow to each room only if every branch is set to take its share. Volume control dampers are what sets it: by hand at commissioning, or by an actuator in systems that modulate while they run.

The standard build is a 1.25 mm galvanized steel frame with 1.0 mm blades, in multi-leaf, non-return and back-draft arrangements, and every model is supplied with gasket sealing so the closed position is a closed position.

For air handling units and exposed runs there is an extruded aluminium range: opposed blades driven through plastic gears in a sealed housing, rubber strips along the blades, natural anodized, up to 2,000 × 2,010 mm and rated to 70 °C. Galvanized and stainless steel versions are made on request.

Rectangular dampers are made to the duct they sit in. Round dampers run from 80 to 630 mm as standard, and larger to order, for spiral ductwork, and where a network runs at high velocity and pressure the low-leakage version takes over.

Low-Leakage Volume Control Dampers

Extruded aluminium airfoil blades, tested to zero leakage

Where a network runs at high velocity and pressure, an ordinary damper leaks and the balance drifts. This version uses extruded aluminium airfoil blades for precise pressure regulation, and meets International Energy Conservation leakage requirements.

On multi-leaf dampers, side and tip seals — synthetic to 80 °C, or silicone to 175 °C — bring closed-blade leakage to UL 555S Class II, and the range includes our tested zero-leakage damper, an Expert Middle East exclusive.

Round Volume Dampers

80 to 630 mm, for round spiral ductwork

The same control in a circular body, for spiral duct systems. The body and blade are galvanized sheet; the blade is set by hand against a marked scale with open and closed positions, and held in place so a balanced branch stays balanced. A servomotor can be fitted on request.

Standard sizes run from 80 to 630 mm, and larger to order. The damper slides into the duct and is fixed with screws; EPDM gaskets can seal the connection, and stainless steel is available for hygienic systems.

Certifications & standards

What each mark on this product means, who issues it and how it applies here.

All certifications & standards
  • ISO 9001

    Quality Management Systems

Issued by International Organization for Standardization (ISO)

    What it is
The international standard for quality management systems. A certified company works to documented processes, checks its output against them, records what it finds and corrects the cause of any fault, and is audited on all of it by an independent certification body.
    On this product
Designed, fabricated and inspected under our certified ISO 9001 quality system: the same documented process for every unit, whichever of our factories builds it.

Frequently asked

For anything these answers do not cover, speak to one of our engineers directly.

Do you supply low-leakage dampers?

Yes. The low-leakage version uses extruded aluminium airfoil blades for high-velocity, high-pressure networks and meets International Energy Conservation leakage requirements. With side and tip seals our multi-leaf dampers reach UL 555S Class II, and a tested zero-leakage damper is in the range.

What sizes do round volume dampers come in?

80 to 630 mm as standard, and larger to order, matched to the spiral duct they sit in. At 1.5 to 6 m/s they pass 27 m³/h (80 mm) up to 6,739 m³/h (630 mm).

Can the dampers be motorized?

Yes. Dampers are supplied hand-set for balancing at commissioning, or with a 24 V or 230 V electric actuator, two-position or modulating, or a pneumatic actuator.

Galvanized or aluminium — which should I specify?

Galvanized steel for general ductwork; extruded aluminium where the damper is exposed, inside an air handling unit, or needs a corrosion-resistant anodized finish. Stainless steel is made on request for hygienic systems.
